Description

With the Republican Party “in serious financial trouble,” Ike writes to Robert Montgomery for fund raising assistance: “we must work to keep our party solvent in order to win in 1962 and 1964.”

TLS signed “D. E.,” one page, 6.75 x 9.75, personal letterhead, October 21, 1961. Letter to actor Robert Montgomery regarding fund raising for the Republican Party. In full, “As I am sure you are well aware, the Republican Party is in serious financial trouble at the national and state levels. All of us who are concerned with the strength, health and future of the Party must simply pitch in now. I believe strongly that we must work to keep our party solvent in order to win in 1962 and 1964, and for this purpose I am giving all the assistance I can. Shortly, Courtney Burton, Chairman of the Republican National Finance Committee, will contact you to get your help on making a few telephone calls. This may involve one meeting with him but this effort is essential and will not be too burdensome on you. For the good of the country and the Party I urge you to give Courtney every possible assistance.” Matted and framed with a portrait of Eisenhower looking over a map, to an overall size of 16.75 x 14.5. In fine condition, with a paperclip impression along top edge. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
