Partly printed DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 20.25 x 16.25, July 15, 1839. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Hiram Francis, “master or commander of the barque called D. Franklin … lying at present in the port of New Bedford, bound for Atlantic Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores, and Utensils for a whaling voyage….” Countersigned by John Forsyth as secretary of state. The embossed paper seal remains intact at center. Partial separations and small holes along intersecting folds (light vertical fold touching first letter of last name; a few small tape remnants to blank portions along horizontal fold at left), a few small stains and tears, and light wrinkling, otherwise very good condition.
