Description

AROUND THE HORN: 1832 ship’s papers for a whaling vessel bound for the Pacific Ocean

Partly printed DS as president, one page, 20.5 x 16, August 13, 1832. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Francis Post, “master or commander of the ship called Huntress … lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for Pacific Ocean and laden with Provisions, Lines, and Utensils for a whaling voyage….” Countersigned by Edw[ard] Livingston as secretary of state. The embossed paper seal remains intact in the Spanish-language column. In very good condition, with a touch of mild wrinkling and soiling (narrow tape stain to top edge), short separations and tiny holes along intersecting folds (vertical fold with early reinforcement to reverse), a few small chips and tears, and faint area of offsetting from seal touching first letter of signature. The signature itself is otherwise unaffected, and, at some 6.75″ in length, is exceptionally dark and large. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
