Rare free franked Executive mailing envelope panel, 5.75 x 3.25, addressed in another hand to “Chas. Baskman, Esq.,” of Orange County, New York, and franked in the upper right, as president, “U. S. Grant.” Of major additional significance is the presence of a three cent face value U. S. Executive official stamp. The 1873 stamp, firmly affixed to the top left corner, has been postally cancelled at Long Branch, New Jersey. The definitive Scott Specialized Catalogue of U. S. Stamps and Covers, cites this, specific stamp in combination with the Long Branch franking, as an item of particular interest and notable rarity in the philatelic community.
