Victoria writes to “My Good Sister, Queen of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies.” In part: “The Sentiments of Friendship which I entertain … will not permit me to delay announcing to you the death of my beloved Aunt Her Majesty The Queen Adelaide, widow of His late Majesty King William the Fourth, which took place shortly before Two O’Clock on the morning of the 2d Instant, in the 58th year of Her Age. In communicating to your Majesty this melancholy intelligence, I feel persuaded that you will kindly participate in the grief which I fell at the loss of a Relative justly and universally venerated for the many Virtues and excellent Qualities which adorned her character….” Matted and framed with a photo to an overall size of 17.75 x 15.
