Description

ALS signed “W. McKinley,” one lightly lined page, 8.25 x 11, Ohio State Library letterhead, January 29, 1895. An official letter penned by McKinley as Governor of Ohio. In full: “It is hereby ordered that the officers and employes of the United States Weather Bureau, Department of Agriculture, stationed at Columbus, Ohio, be given the privileges of the State Library, under the same conditions as said privileges are now extended to employes of the State Government. The Observer in charge of said Bureau at Columbus shall certify to the Librarian who are [sic] in his employ and this certificate shall entitle the bearer to the privileges of the Library until further orders to the contrary.” Countersigned by two other officials. Accompanied by three unsigned cabinet photos picturing a younger McKinley, his father, William McKinley, Sr., and his mother, Nancy Campbell Allison McKinley.
