Description

The former Yalie baseballer to a former major league pitcher: “I appreciate your offer of help with the war on drugs”

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, September 29, 1989. Bush writes to Milt Pappas in Wheaton, Illinois. In part: “I appreciate your offer of help with the war on drugs, and if there is some way we can get you involved nationally, we’ll be in touch. I sure there is much you can do with young people right there in Chicago….” Pappas (born 1939) was a major-league pitcher who played for several teams from 1957 to 1973, including Baltimore, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Chicago. Among other milestones during his 17-year career, Pappas gave up the 59th home run to Roger Maris during the latter’s record-breaking 1961 season. Accompanied by a TLS of authenticity from Pappas. In very fine condition. R&R COA.
