Matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Wayne as he appeared in one of his later films, signed and inscribed in black felt tip “Bill—Stay happier than I look in this picture, John Wayne, 1978.” The original recipient of the photo, Bill Kelly, was a prolific journalist and author who conducted the last interview Wayne ever gave, on November 28, 1978; Wayne died on June 11 of the following year. The interview, conducted at the actor’s home, was published in South Bay magazine in July 1981 and in Kelly’s book/CD Empty Saddles. Accompanied by several pieces of documentation, including a copy of the interview as published in the magazine, a CD copy of Empty Saddles, and approximately 24 color reprints of photos taken at Wayne’s home on the day of the interview.
