Description

Photocopied souvenir typescript in which Paige recalls his 1948 major-league debut, 7.25 x 10, signed at the conclusion in ballpoint “Satchel Paige.” In part: “It seemed like a mighty long walk from the bullpen to the pitcher’s mound…. I just shuffled along, and every time I shuffled, the stands busted loose like they never was so happy to see anyone in their life…. It was such a mess I just dropped my mouth open and stood there for a minute. I guess maybe history was being made. I was only about ten feet away from being the first Negro ever to plant a spike on an American League pitching mound….” Matted to an overall size of 8.5 x 11. In fine condition. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
