Highly influential avant-garde American composer and artist (1912–1992) who attained permanent notoriety with his 1952 composition 4´33″, which consists of four minutes and thirty-three seconds of ambient noise in an otherwise silent performance space. Four items: 1966 TLS signed “John,” agreeing to assist with the editing of a music dictionary; undated DS signed “John Cage,” regarding entries for a music dictionary; unsigned career questionnaire filled out in Cage’s hand; and an ANS of transmittal for the questionnaire, signed “J.
