1859 ship’s papers for a whaling voyage

DS as president, one page, 20 x 15.25, July 12, 1859. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Silas Jones, “master or commander of the ship called Commodore Morris … lying at present in the port of Falmouth, Mass.,” laden with “provisions, stores, and utensils for a whaling voyage.“ Countersigned by John Appleton as Acting Secretary of State. A large embossed paper seal remains intact at lower center. Matted and framed with a period engraving to an overall size of 33.5 x 22. Scattered light soiling and a few small spots (one just touching “B”), a hint of mild wrinkling, and a few small separations along central vertical fold (not touching any text), otherwise fine condition.
