Description

LUCKY LINDY AND SILENT CAL: COOLIDGE honors LINDBERGH after his historic 1927 flight

Terrific vintage matte-finish photo of President Calvin Coolidge presenting Charles Lindbergh with a medal to commemorate his historic 1927 trans-Atlantic flight, 7.25 x 9 on its original 7.75 x 12 mount, boldly signed in fountain pen on the mount “Cordially, Calvin Coolidge” and “C. A. Lindbergh.” Previously sold by the Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery, New York. Matted and framed with a handsome period bronze commemorative medallion featuring a high-relief image of Lindbergh, measuring 2.5 in diameter and impressed with the artist’s name “G[eorges] Prud’homme,” to an overall size of 14.5 x 20.5. Scattered light surface marks, edges of photo very slightly lifting from mount, and a hint of subtle silvering to dark portions, otherwise fine condition. Both signatures are quite bold and unusually large for the signers. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
