Teacher from New Hampshire slated to be the first civilian in space who died tragically in the Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986. TLS signed “S. Christa McAuliffe,” one page, 8.5 x 11, NASA letterhead, September 18, 1985. Polite letter of response to a collector. In full, “Thank you for your note. I do not have my official photograph yet, but I have placed your name on a list and you should receive one this fall.
