Musician and author, he studied under his half-brother James and the composer Thomas Arne in London. Unsigned hand written lyrics on a 9 x 4.5 slip. In part: “Since Robin Hood Maid Marian And Little John are gone The hobby horse was quite forgot.” Also included is a neatly printed libretto of this same song, written on musically lined paper. The paper of the note is watermarked 1808. Just twenty years after the very first “opera” about Robin Hood, Charles Burney staged a two-act musical entertainment “Robin Hood” which took the stage in 1750 at Drury Lane.
