Description

Russian poet and possibly the most outspoken proponent of Impressionism during the early stages of the Russian Symboist movement. AQS, in Russian, on a 10.5 x 4.5 off-white slip, signed at the conclusion, “K. Balmont,” and dated February 19, 1917, Moscow. Quote appears to be the last four lines of a poem entitled I Came Into This World To See Sun from the book Let Us Be Like Sun, 1903. It reads: "I came into this world to see the Sun, And if the day went out, I shall sing; I shall sing about the Sun, In the hour before death!.” In fine condition, with bisecting horizontal crease affecting just a couple letters of text and light overall wrinkling. Balmont’s writing and signature are crisp and dark. R&R COA.
