Wife of President William Howard Taft (1861–1943) and First Lady from 1909 to 1913. ALS, one page, 5 x 3.75, personal notecard, March 3 [envelope postmarked 1930]. Mrs. Taft writes to a well-wisher. In full: “I thank you for the sympathy you show in Mr. Taft’s illness. Sincerely yours….” Taft, who had retired as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court a month earlier, died of heart disease five days later, on March 10. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed by Mrs. Taft. In fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
