Author of Little Women. ALS signed “L. M. Alcott,” two pages, 5.5 x 5, January 3. Letter to Mr. Stockton concerning her writing rates. The St. Nicholas Magazine (1873-1941) was a popular American children's magazine, published by Scribner’s beginning in November 1873, and designed for children five to eighteen. Alcott’s last years were shadowed by the deaths of her mother and her sister May, who left behind a little daughter, Louisa May Nieriker. For her Alcott wrote the story Lu Sing, later published in the St. Nicholas magazine in 1902. It was the last work she completed. Although the year of the letter is unknown, Alcott may be referencing this very work. In fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
