In memorium: Coolidge signed quote from his 1926 Memorial Day speech at Arlington honoring “these old soldiers, the living descendants of the spirit of Washington…representing the spirit of Lincoln, who saved our country.”

TQS on an off-white 6.25 x 9 sheet, bearing a small vignette of the Capitol building. Quote is the final paragraph of Coolidge’s address at the Memorial Exercises at Arlington, Virginia, given on May 31, 1926, and reads, in full, “As these old soldiers, the living descendants of the spirit of Washington that made our country, go down toward the setting sun, representing the spirit of Lincoln, who saved our country, they will have the satisfaction of knowing that they are leaving behind them the same spirit, still undaunted, still ready to maintain in the future a more abiding peace and a more abounding prosperity, under which America can continue to work for the salvation of the world.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Coolidge. In fine condition, with a light vertical fold through a single letter of first name of signature and a bit of trivial creasing. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
