Unsigned manuscript document in Lincoln’s hand, one lightly lined page, 7.75 x 12.5, October 18, 1842. A handwritten legal brief related to the case of John M. Wilson vs. Samuel Frazer. In part: “Defendant … states on oath that he verily believes the said plaintiff and James McGee, who has entered himself security for costs in this cause, each and both of them are unable to pay the costs of this suit; that affiant is informed and believes, that executions against the property of each of them have been retained by the proper officers….” The lower portion of the document bears an ink notation signed by clerk Amos Williams. Accompanied by a typescript on Lincoln Library, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, letterhead. In good to very good condition, with separations at folds touching several words (early tape reinforcements to reverse), chips touching a few words, and light toning and soiling.
