New Mexico lawman (1850–1908) who killed his former gambling partner, the fabled outlaw Billy the Kid, in 1881. Garrett himself was fatally ambushed near Las Cruces; his suspected murderer, Jim “Deacon” Miller, was never brought to justice. DS, signed “P. F. Garrett,” two pages, 8.5 x 13, December 11, 1906. A contract wherein Garrett, “in consideration of the sum of one dollar,” is granted the right to “cut a tunnel upon [The Englewood Gold Mining Company’s] property situate in the Black Mountain Mining District, Dona Ana County, New Mexico … [agreeing] to commence said work … in a thorough workmanlike and minerlike manner … [and] agrees to furnish at his own proper cost and expense all necessary powder, fuse, stell, tool, and implements of every kind and description.” In addition, Garrett is to be paid the sum of $7.50 per lineal foot for his work.
