Description

On Haig’s role in the Watergate cover-up: “I cannot state categorically either that he was or was not involved”

American lawyer (1912–2004) best known for his role as special prosecutor in the Watergate investigation. His firing by Nixon led to the resignation of two cabinet members and was viewed as one of the most inflammatory actions by the executive branch during the investigation. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Harvard Law School letterhead, January 25, 1991. Cox writes to Dean Collins in Austin. In part: “You ask whether Alexander Haig was ever involved in the attempt to cover up responsibility for the burglary and other wrongdoings exposed by the several Watergate investigations. No evidence that General Haig was involved came to my attention while I was Watergate Special Prosecutor. I do not recall reading about any such evidence in later days; but I cannot state categorically either that he was or was not involved.” In very fine condition. R&R COA.
