LS signed “J. C. Calhoun,” one page, 8 x 9.75, November 30, 1824. Calhoun, as Secretary of War, writes to John A. Fort in New Orleans. In part: “You will be pleased … to make a return of all the Invalids on the roll of your Agency, who have not yet applied for the stipend due them on the 4th of September last … and also the state of the Invalid Fund. This statement will embrace five columns, comprehending the names of the Pensioners—the month, by allowance of each—the time to which they were last paid—the amount due each….” In very good condition, with scattered soiling, staining, and wrinkling, and glue remnant to reverse showing through in left margin. .
