We do “declare!”: A striking 1784 HANCOCKdocument

President of the Second Continental Congress and of the Congress of the Confederation; first Governor of Massachusetts; and the first person to sign the United States Declaration of Independence. Partial but self-contained official DS, one page, 9.25 x 5.25, June 3, 1784. The text reads, in part: “In testimony … I have caused the Public Seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be hereto affixed.” Signed at the conclusion by then-Governor Hancock and counter-signed by Commonwealth Secretary John Avery. Matted and framed with a seated portrait to an overall size of 22 x 13.25. In fine, clean condition, with just a few light folds and creases.
