British statesman (1809–1898) who served as prime minister on four separate occasions between 1868 and 1894. ALS signed “W. Gladstone,” one page on the correspondence side of a 3.5 x 5.5 postcard, May 13, 1890. Gladstone acknowledges receipt of a letter and declines to “undertake a new engagement.” Framed with a period engraving to an overall size of 13.25 x 11.5.
