In part: “I have some moneyed transactions in your state, which make it necessary to know the present state of your usury laws.” After asking a number of related questions, Fillmore continues: “I would not trouble you, did I not know that legislation was constantly changing on these subjects, and I can not therefore rely upon the Ohio statues which are acceptable here….” A touch of light wrinkling, otherwise fine condition.
