Description

He found out the hard way: “I do not suppose we will ever have an accurate way of determining whether political speeches and appearances have an effect one way or another in a campaign”

TLS signed “Dick,” one page, 7 x 9, Office of the Vice President letterhead, January 15, 1957. Nixon writes to Samuel Bodine, Chairman of the New Jersey Republican State Committee. In part: “I do not suppose we will ever have an accurate way of determining whether political speeches and appearances have an effect one way or another in a campaign. But I can assure you that after you do the work it is certainly gratifying to hear somebody whose judgment you respect say that your efforts were helpful!” In fine condition, with a hint of mild scattered soiling and wrinkling, and secretarial ink stamp. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
