Schooner-size Jefferson and Madison ship’s papers presentation

Partially printed DS, signed by Jefferson as president, “Th: Jefferson,” and by Madison as Secretary of State, one page, 16.75 x 15.75, February 14, 1805. A four-language ship’s papers issued to William Williams, “master or commander of … the Courier of the burthen of 82 tons or thereabouts, laying at present in the port of Newbury Port bound for the West Indies.” Archivally shadow box framed with two gold-inlaid, sterling silver portrait plates issued in a limited edition by the Franklin Mint in the early-to-mid 1970s, and a large facsimile of the Declaration of Independence, to an overall size of 51 x 38. In good condition, with toning and scattered staining, folds (one fold touching Jefferson’s signature; other folds with partial separations and holes, one separation touching first name of Madison’s signature), a few tears, and ink erosion effectively eliminating last name of Madison’s signature and affecting about half of the final letter of Jefferson’s signature. The remainder of Jefferson’s signature remains clear and dark. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Oversized.
