Stunning color matte-finish 19.25 x 15.5 photo of the Apollo 11 moon landing, signed in white artist’s pencil or crayon, “Neil Armstrong, Tranquility Base,” in silver ink, “Michael Collins, Apollo XI CMP, July 20, 1969,” and in black felt tip, “Buzz Aldrin, Apollo XI, ‘Magnificent Desolation.’” Matted and framed to an overall size of 29.5 x 25.5. Accompanied by a Novaspace certificate of authenticity for Collins’ signature (which includes two images of Collins signing) and a copy of a letter of provenance from the original owner, who explains that his father, a photographer in Oxford, Ohio, received the unsigned image from a photo developer friend in Houston and personally obtained the Armstrong signature during a visit by the astronaut to the Miami University campus. A few tiny flecks of writing medium to Armstrong’s signature, otherwise fine condition. The astounding confluence of factors—the impressive size and visual appeal; the unusually large signatures of all three crew members; the lack of personalized inscriptions—raises this item to the most exclusive level of desirability among signed Apollo 11 images.
