Description

“Hopeful”: Anxiously awating news of Titanic passengers just hours after the disaster

Manuscript in telegram in pencil, signed “Edith,” 8.5 x 5.5 on a preprinted British Post Office Telegraphs form, April 15, 1912. A message to Harper House, Cambridge, Wimbledon. In full: “We are waiting White Star Offices official lists every half hour Madame Estelle hopeful.” The RMS Titanic hit the infamous iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14 and sank in the early morning hours of April 15. The “Harper House” address suggests that the passengers in question were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harper, who were first-class passengers (and survivors). In very good condition, with light even toning, folds, and a few small edge chips. R&R COA.
