Description

“A selfish personal thrill”

Highly regarded American songwriter (1885–1945) best known for the musical Showboat and for such standards as “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” TLS, one page on Kern’s 5 x 4 pictorial note card, December 15, 1944. Kern writes to Betty Mulliner. In full: “For your gracious participation in the Squibb’s surprise party of Wednesday, the thirteenth, may the subject send you his earnest appreciation. Less formal, perhaps not so polite, but much more natural, are my warm thanks for giving me a selfish personal thrill.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Light scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
