Description

Superlative, larger-than-life Harris & Ewing portrait inscribed to the governor who led Hawaii during Pearl Harbor

Stupendous and magnetic vintage matte-finish 14 x 20 Harris & Ewing close-up photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen in the blank lower border, “For Joseph B. Poindexter with the regards of his friend Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1934.” In the year he signed this photo, FDR appointed Poindexter (1869–1951), a former federal judge, Territorial Governor of Hawaii. Poindexter was still at the helm when Pearl Harbor was attacked seven years later, on December 7, 1941, and remained at the post until the end of his term in the following year. An undeniably choice image with the kind of presence and association that will quicken the pulse of even the most jaded collector! In fine condition, with subtle, nearly invisible bend, mild scattered soiling, and writing just a shade light, yet remaining bold and clear. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
