Description

The artist’s Broadway “debut”

French painter (1877–1953) best known for his colorful depictions of such outdoor social events as regattas, horse races, and the like. TLS in French, one page, 7.25 x 10, Hotel Fensgate, Boston letterhead, no date [secretarial ink stamp dated September 20, 1950]. Dufy writes to multiple-Tony-winning producer Gilbert Miller (1884–1970), mentioning that he is happy that Miller found his drawings “charming” and that he will send additional designs to New York. The letter relates directly to Dufy’s stage curtain designs for the Miller-produced play Ring Round the Moon, which debuted on November 23, 1950. A few secretarial notations, otherwise fine, crisp condition. R&R COA.
