Granting a pension to the widow of a Maine Volunteer

Maine-born Union major general (1828–1914) who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his defense of Little Round Top at Gettysburg. He later served as Governor of Maine and president of Bowdoin College. Partially printed DS, signed “J. L. Chamberlain,” one page, 8 x 12.5, July 23, 1867. A pension certificate for Catherine Lord, “widow of Isaac Lord, late a Private in Co. I, 11th Regt. Infantry Maine Vols.,” signed by Chamberlain as governor. Matted with a reproduction photo to an overall size of 21 x 18.5. In fine condition, with light horizontal folds and faint show-through from writing on reverse. R&R COA.
