Mexican general and politician (1794–1876) best known in the U.S. for his role in the Mexican-American War and the slaughter of scores of Americans at the Alamo. Manuscript DS, in Spanish, signed “Ant. Lopez de Santa Anna,” one page, 8.25 x 12, December 31, 1838. An official document evidently related to a military personnel matter. Three weeks earlier, on December 5, Santa Anna lost a leg to a wound suffered during the defense of San Juan de Ulúa during the infamous “Pastry War” with the French. A few tiny chips and tears to edges, small stain to one corner, and faint fold just touching signature, otherwise fine condition. The signature is clean, dark, and virtually flawless. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
