Description

RABBIT TALES: The famed children’s author sends Christmas greetings as “Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit”

British author and illustrator (1866–1943) whose Edwardian-era tales of naughty rabbits, “bad” mice, and other amusingly mischievous animals take a place among the most enduring and beloved works in the annals of children’s literature. Her first and best-known book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, has sold more than 40 million copies since it was first published in 1902. Scarce and charming Christmas card featuring a printed image of Potter’s characters dancing around a Christmas tree, 7 x 4.75, signed “Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit” and inscribed “[To] Mr. and Mrs. William Davis Miller, a Merry Christmas, Dec. 1932.” Accompanied by the original printed slip explaining that the card was issued as part of a fund-raising effort headed by Mrs. Stanley Baldwin (wife of the then-former Prime Minister) and “Peter Rabbit’s Committee” for the Invalid Children’s Aid Association. Potter rarely signed with this form of her maiden, “professional” name in the period following her marriage to William Heelis in 1913. In very fine condition. A stunning, simply gorgeous example from this most desirable and uncommon of children’s authors! LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
