Good help is hard to find: “Your butler seemed to think you were out of London forever”

American modernist writer and critic (1885–1972) whose works, particularly his poetry, occupy a central place in twentieth-century letters. ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, embossed personal letterhead, November 16, 1916. Pound writes to “Mme. Ellen.” In part: “Miss [Natalie] Barney in a postscript asks me to phone you hoping you received some ??? some something or other? reviews?… At any rate your butler seemed to think you were out of London forever so I write insted [sic] of phoning….” In fine condition, with a few subtle blots and staple holes and small rust spot touching one word of text.
