Buchanan writes to a Pennsylvania jurist

Franking signature, “Free, James Buchanan,” on a 5 x 3 panel from a postal cover addressed in Buchanan’s hand to James Champneys in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and bearing a Washington, D.C. postmark of January 15 [no year]. Champneys (1800–1871) was a judge and Pennsylvania state legislator. Framed with a portrait engraving to an overall size of 9.75 x 13. In fine condition, with a touch of mild soiling, light vertical fold touching first letter of signature, and a few tiny edge tears (one near but not touching signature).
