Description

Antipicating an upcoming London engagement

TLS signed “Marlene,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, March 19, 1969. Dietrich writes to Hugh Beaumont of the Globe Theater in London [not TV’s Ward Cleaver], whom she addresses as “Binkie.” In part: “I am not going to play in America…. I still would like to work for you but as you know I would have to know now in order to engage my people. Burt is coming to London to do his own TV spectacular in April and he would ‘open’ me if I would open May first or soon thereafter. That means he would train the orchestra which is the most important fact for me.” Accompanied by an unsigned carbon copy of Beaumont’s response. In very good condition, with a hint of toning to edges (slightly touching signature), light wrinkles and a few tiny spots, and secretarial pencil notations. R&R COA.
