Adams opposed British colonial taxation. He urged people not to buy British goods and probably participated in the Boston Tea Party with the Sons of Liberty. Elected to both Continental Congresses, he was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, yet refused to attend the Constitutional Convention. He later was Governor of Massachusetts.
