ALS, one page, 5 x 7.25, personal letterhead, May 27, 1868. Barnum writes a letter of recommendation to Mr. Wood. In full: “The best stage manager we had for years was Mr. Levich. He is very industrious, and as I suppose you know, is a good actor. He knows everything appertaining to the stage and he is reliable every way, for his habits are unexceptionable. I have had much trouble with drinking actors, & Mr. Levich is a noble exception in that line.” In good condition, with page mounted to a slightly larger sheet, heavy folds with partial separations touching a few words, chipping and trimming to edges (not affecting writing), and scattered soiling and toning.
