Legal trouble?

Highly influential French painter (1840–1926), one of the leading figures of the impressionist movement, best known for his evocative, atmospheric views of nature and architecture and for his skill in capturing the subtleties of changing light. ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.5, Giverny Par Vernon, Eure letterhead, January 11, 1913. Letter to Blanche. In part (translated), “Thank you for your good letter which I am answering right away in order to recommend to the both of you not to worry about the note from the bailiff…send me by the next mail so that I can have it paid…I have received this morning a letter from Albert whom, as it is understood, went to see Mr. Bullier who is in charge of all the affairs from now on and that he hopes to carry through. Albert will see him from time to time in order to make it progress quickly. First, and in order not to waste any time, if you notice some things irregular whatever they might be, inform Albert right away so that he can let Mr. Bullier know…Outside of that all is fine here…I kiss the both of you with all my heart as much as I love you.” In good condition, somewhat fragile, with Monet’s usual purple ink alternately light and dark, particularly on the interior pages (his full signature dark and bold), scattered minor chips and tears in the margins, slight mirroring of ink and partial separations along mailing folds. A lengthy letter from one of the most influential painter’s in history retaining its bold and prominent signature. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. From the Jerry Granat collection
