British one-pound bank note, 6 x 3, signed in fountain pen on the front, “Franklin D. Roosevelt” and “Winston S. Churchill.” Comparison of FDR’s signature with exemplars suggests a date of circa 1945, and the most likely scenario is that both men signed the item together as a souvenir during the historic Yalta Conference of January 30–February 2, 1945. A third, very faint signature, evidently that of British football great Stanley Mathews, is barely visible above Roosevelt’s. Accompanied by an ALS on Mathews’ visiting card, reading, in part, “I never met the two war leaders together—it’s a mystery to me.” In very good condition, with typical light soiling, creases, handing wear from circulation, and small hole at intersection of folds.
