An interesting Woodrow Wilson Archive that contains three letters, two of which are TLSs signed, “Woodrow Wilson,” written during Wilson's tenure as President of Princeton University. The first letter was sent by William Allen Butler, a concerned parent whose child, Lyman had just graduated from Princeton. Apparently, there had been a mistake with his grade point average and Mr. Butler wrote Wilson regarding the matter. In the first letter from Wilson, one page, Wilson acknowledges the incident by stating, “I am very much distressed about the mistake to which you call my attention in the case of your son Lyman.” In the second, two adjoining pages, Wilson attempts to console the family by stating “The injustice done to him at Commencement unhappily cannot be corrected. I regret it with the deepest chagrin. If there is anything else that you can think of that could be done, I am sure that we would be very glad to consider it.” The letters are in fine condition, with expected folds and a few light creases.
