LS signed “J. A. Garfield,” one lightly lined page, 5 x 8.25, July 21, 1873. Letter to Rose. In part, “I have not heard from you since I last wrote. I am still not well, but am resting, and bring up some back work. I enclose herewith the journal up to yesterday. I cannot yet say when I can go to Washington.” Garfield adds a closing sentiment in his own hand, “I am as ever your friend,” above his signature.
