Description

The legendary “blue” comic as businessman: “I have a corporation called Lenny Bruce Enterprises in California”

Pioneering American stand-up comic (1925–1966) whose frank, sometimes “obscene” commentary on a variety of taboo subjects made him one of the most controversial yet popular performers of the 1950s and 1960s. He died of a morphine overdose at the age of forty. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, August 5, 1964. Bruce writes to Mr. Durham. In part: “I own part of a house with a first and second mortgage. I have a corporation called Lenny Bruce Enterprises in California. I own some 2 lots in Joshua Tree, California…. I have decided to make John Judnich me for all intensive purposes [sic] and what he will do is make you aware of what I spend…. You will make him aware of what I should pay in tax.” Hole to blank portion at upper left and a few scattered wrinkles, otherwise fine condition. The signature and body of the letter are clean and unaffected. R&R COA.
