Carter is raring to go: “My request is that I be given the same reorganization authority granted to Richard Nixon when he became President in 1969.”

TLS signed “Jimmy,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 12, 1977. President-elect Carter sends a letter to Senator Daniel Moynihan. In full, “I need your cooperation in increasing the effectiveness of the executive branch of government. This will, of course, be a common effort among myself and the cabinet officials, the Congress, and our professional civil servants. My request is that I be given the same reorganization authority granted to Richard Nixon when he became President in 1969. Your early action will permit us to begin work soon after inauguration.” In fine condition, with two horizontal mailing folds and a couple of vertical office stamps. R&R COA.
