Description

Decorating thirty-six soldiers in the first months of World War I

The last czar of Russia, who reigned from 1894 to his abdication in 1917. In the wake of the Russian Revolution, Nicholas, Empress Alexandra, and their children were imprisoned and finally executed on July 17, 1918. Though the ultimate fate of the Romanovs—and the putative survival of Princess Anastasia in particular—became the stuff of legend, recent research has confirmed that the executions were indeed carried out, and that the remains were soaked in acid and burned. Partially printed DS in Russian, two pages both sides, 9 x 14, December 6, 1914. A document specifying the awarding of honors, including the Orders of Sainted Apostolic Prince Vladimir, Saint Anna, and Saint Stanislav, to thirty-six members of the Russian military. A touch of very mild scattered soiling, otherwise fine, crisp, bright condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
