Description

The Bambino pays the Yankees a year after his Hall of Fame induction

Personal check, 8.5 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and signed by Ruth as “G. H. Ruth,” payable to the N. Y. American League Baseball Club for $10.00, October 1, 1937. Beautifully double matted and framed (so both sides are visible), with silver gelatin archival print of Bruce Murray’s famous photo, taken from the original negative, of Ruth in the dugout during his final game on May 30, 1935 as a member of the Braves, to an overall size of 20 x 22. In fine condition, with cancellation holes to pay line and a small bank stamp affecting a single letter of signature. The 1937 World Series featured the defending champion New York Yankees and the New York Giants in a rematch of the 1936 Series. The Yankees won the Series in five games for their second championship in a row and their sixth in fifteen years. After this photograph of Ruth was taken, he went on to play only one inning. He then walked off the field very dramatically out through center field, never to play again. LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
