Description

The good Democrat: “I want ... nothing for myself, but I ... want to see the Party organize in the spirit of unselfishness”

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, April 14, 1925. Roosevelt writes to Rev. I. T. Johnson. In part: “You will have seen by the press that some of the more timid elements in the party are unafraid to hold a conference. It seems a pity. I, for one, do not believe that there are any serious fundamental differences in the Democratic Party. Down here in Georgia the average Democrat talks the same language as the average Democrat in upstate New York or Missouri. I shall continue to work to try to get the so-called leaders to realize this and to come together on the fundamentals of the principles and organization. I want and would take, nothing for myself, but I do want to see the Party organize in the spirit of unselfishness.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Folds (one touching signature, two with short edge separations), otherwise fine condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
