Description

1932 Olympic album signed by almost 100 participants including Didrickson and Stela Walsh

Leatherbound autograph album, 7 x 5.5, signed inside in fountain pen by ninety-eight Olympians who participated in the 1932 games in Los Angeles. Signers include: Babe Didrickson, adding in her own hand, “80 M. Hurdles 11.7 - Javelin 143.4 - High Jump - 5 ft 3 3/16” (Didrickson was disqualified in the latter event). Other notable signatures include Finland’s Matti Sippala (silver medal, javelin) and Poland sprinter Stella Walsh (Walasiewicz). Interestingly, Walsh, who added the notation of “100 mtr. Poland,” earned a gold medal in that event. After she was felled by a stray bullet in a Cleveland shopping center in 1980, an autopsy revealed Walsh to have male genitals, as well as both male and female chromosomes. In fine condition. Interesting collection worthy of further research. R&R COA.
